Job Description:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Management Accountant to join our finance team in Manchester. The ideal candidate will have experience in transaction processing, reconciliations, and supporting the preparation of management accounts. You will work across five companies, supporting various aspects of the finance function, including invoice processing, payment management, and assisting with financial reporting. This role offers the opportunity to develop within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transaction Processing:
    Manage sales ledger, purchase ledger, and cash book processing across five companies.

  • Invoicing:
    Raise quarterly, bi-annual, and annual invoices for Service Charge Accounts, ensuring timely and accurate billing.

  • Supplier & Invoice Payments:
    Handle monthly supplier payments using SAGE 50, including managing the company’s Amazon account and Service Charge Account payments.

  • Bank Reconciliations:
    Conduct monthly reconciliations for multiple bank accounts, ensuring any discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly.

  • Staff Expenses & Payroll:
    Process staff expense claims and manage monthly staff NET pay, including HMRC payments.

  • Commission Reviews:
    Review and process commissions due from insurance renewals and other contractual agreements.

  • Management Accounts Support:
    Assist with the preparation of management accounts, P&L analysis, and finance pack.

  • Journal Entries:
    Prepare and process journals, accruals, and prepayments to ensure accurate month-end close.

  • Fixed Assets & Depreciation:
    Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure the correct calculation and posting of depreciation.

  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations:
    Perform regular balance sheet reconciliations to maintain financial accuracy.

  • Cashflow Forecasting:
    Update the cashflow forecast spreadsheet to ensure real-time tracking of liquidity.

  • VAT Returns:
    Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.

  • Year-End & Audit Support:
    Assist with year-end financial processes and audit preparation, ensuring accurate and complete documentation.

  • Internal Controls & Contracts:
    Help improve internal controls and manage ongoing office contracts to enhance efficiency and compliance.

  • Departmental Support:
    Provide cover within the finance department as required, ensuring smooth operational continuity.

Person Specification:

  • Self-Motivation & Organisation:
    Ability to organise and manage your own work with minimal supervision, ensuring deadlines are met.

  • Time Management & Flexibility:
    Excellent time management skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and demands.

  • Attention to Detail:
    High degree of accuracy, with a commitment to producing high-quality work.

  • Commitment to Improvement:
    Actively seeks ways to improve processes and support company goals and policies.

  • Team Collaboration:
    Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships. You’ll operate effectively as part of a collaborative finance team.

  • Problem-Solving Skills:
    Demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making skills when faced with challenges.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Part-qualified in AAT/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of SAGE 50 (essential).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial spreadsheet management.
  • Experience in transaction processing and working across multiple entities.
  • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of VAT and financial reporting.
  • Prior experience in a similar finance role is an advantage.
